Emerald

The Emerald is the green variety of the natural mineral Beryl. It is easily identifiable by its rich green colours, caused by the presence of chromium in the Beryl. Like sapphires, the Emerald clarity varies from transparent to fully opaque. Most emeralds contain many inclusions and this can help you recognize real emeralds from the very clean synthetic stones. Because of the many inclusions and the structure of the Emerald, they are commonly treated with oil. The Emerald is known as the love stone and is excellent for new beginnings and healing. Due to the nature of the stone and where it is mined, each stone is unique and the colours will vary. Most of the best emeralds came from Brazil and Zambia.
